With international travel back open, we’re excited to welcome overseas travellers back to New Zealand. While the country has moved away from the heavy restrictions and protection framework (traffic light system), it continues to be a priority to keep both our customers and staff safe and to ensure your journey is an enjoyable one. This is why our Covid-19 travel guarantee still applies to future-proof your road trip so you can book with confidence. If you test positive for Covid-19 and need to amend your booking, please contact your local branch as soon as possible to speak with our team.
In the case of border closures (regional and international) and Government enforced lockdowns, customers impacted will be provided with full flexibility to cancel or amend their booking with no cancellation or admin fees.
Weather and Flight Delays
In the case of unforeseen weather events that prevent you from travelling, please contact your local branch as soon as you can. To make sure you still have an amazing holiday, our team will work with you to find the best option so you can make the most of your trip.
If your flight is delayed or rescheduled, please get in touch with the pickup branch as soon as possible to inform us of your new pick up time. Our team are super helpful and want to make sure you can still get on the road.
Standard Cancellation Policy
If your cancellation does not qualify for full flexibility, then our standard cancellation policy will apply:
- The Hirer may cancel its booking of the Vehicle at any time prior to picking up the Vehicle by giving GO Rentals written notification but will be liable to pay a cancellation fee to GO Rentals in accordance with this clause.
- If the Hirer notifies GO Rentals of the cancellation more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time of pick up there will be a cancellation fee of 10% of the total charges for the Vehicle rental.
- If the Hirer notifies GO Rentals of the cancellation less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time of pick up or does not collect the Vehicle at the scheduled time of pick up (i.e. is a “no show”), the cancellation fee is 100% of the total charges for the Vehicle rental that would have been associated with the booking.
- Any amounts refunded to the Hirer are subject to an administration fee to cover the cost of processing the refund of 10% of the refund due, or $20.00, whichever is higher.

A Quick Tip for International visitors
We highly recommend that customers visiting internationally make sure they have travel insurance before visiting New Zealand. This means that in the unfortunate case where you need to cancel your rental, you may be eligible to claim the cost back through your insurance. This applies to more than just your car rentals, any flight and accommodation issues you may encounter during your visit can also be claimed back on your insurance, so it’s a really good idea to make sure you’re covered.
